Los electrolitos participan en el mantenimiento de la denominada presi\u00f3n osm\u00f3tica en las c\u00e9lulas del cuerpo y contribuyen as\u00ed, a la regulaci\u00f3n del equilibrio h\u00eddrico. Por ello, el potasio se mide tambi\u00e9n rutinariamente en los an\u00e1lisis de sangre. En tal caso, la concentraci\u00f3n de potasio en el suero sangu\u00edneo deber\u00eda situarse entre 3.5 y 6.5 miliequivalentes por litro (meq\/l).<\/p>\n<p>El potasio desempe\u00f1a adem\u00e1s un papel importante en la activaci\u00f3n de algunas enzimas, en la producci\u00f3n de prote\u00ednas y en el metabolismo de los carbohidratos y es, por ello, importante para la generaci\u00f3n de energ\u00eda.
